Tips on Surviving the Holiday Season with a Newborn

🎁The holidays aren’t always like Hallmark movies — and sadly, Santa won’t be swooping in on his sleigh to save you. 😅 But the good news? There are ways to make this season less stressful and more joyful with a newborn in your arms. We spoke to Donna Ford, who leads the amazing team of Postpartum Doulas at The Newborn Nurtury, and she shared her best advice for navigating the holidays as new parents.

🎯 Be Realistic - You just had a baby — give yourself a break! ❤️ This year’s holidays don’t need to look like last year’s. Let go of “perfect” and embrace “good enough.” The memories you’re making now — even in pajamas, with takeout — are just as special.

🚫 Set Limits & Learn to Say No - You don’t have to do it all. That party you loved last year might feel overwhelming now, and that’s okay. Even if friends say, “Just bring the baby!” — you know best what will help your little one (and you!) stay calm and rested. Decide what really matters to you this season — then protect that space like the mama (or papa) bear you are. 🐻

🎁 Curate Your Gift List - Build a Holiday Gift Registry that truly supports your new life. In addition to gifts for baby, think practical: 🧺 Cleaning services 🍲 Meal delivery 🍼 Babysitting help 💆♀️ A massage gift card

🍽️ Embrace Prepared Foods - Your local market may offer delicious pre-made holiday meals. You can order just a few sides or the whole spread. And when it comes to baby food, consider a delivery service — one less thing to think about during a busy season.

📅 Plan Ahead - Routines can be a lifeline with a newborn. Planning ahead helps avoid chaos and exhaustion. 🍼 Sit down with your partner and a calendar: *Plan shopping trips when your baby is rested and fed. *Go during off-peak hours (weekday mornings are gold!). *Keep a clear list to stay efficient. The smoother your schedule, the calmer your holiday will feel.

🤱 Hire Some Help - ’Tis the season for extra hands! Many college students are home and happy to earn a little money. A mother’s helper can watch the baby while you bake cookies or tidy up. 🎄If you’ve just had your baby (or will soon), a Postpartum Doula from The Newborn Nurtury can be a wonderful gift to yourself — offering support, guidance, and rest as you ease into the new year.

Keep Visits Short & Sweet - If you’re used to spending hours hopping from house to house, this might be the year for mini visits. Pop in for dessert, exchange gifts, and head home guilt-free. Your loved ones will understand — and your baby will thank you! 💕

💭 Remember: Holidays Don’t “Fix” Postpartum Emotions - If you’re struggling with postpartum depression or anxiety, the holidays won’t magically make it disappear — in fact, the extra stress can make things harder. 💙 Reach out for help if you need it. You deserve support, not perfection.

🌟 Give Yourself Grace - If you’re used to going all out for family and friends, scaling back can feel tough. But a little self-care goes a long way toward making the season truly joyful — for both you and your baby.

✨ Wishing you rest, peace, and just the right amount of sparkle this holiday season. ✨

Season’s Greetings from all of us at The Pump Station & Nurtury!
