CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Few new parenting decisions are as stressful and controversial as the choices parents make regarding their infant's sleep. With so many conflicting opinions on sleep from books, professionals, family and friends, it can be overwhelming for parents to choose the best sleep approach for their family. We all know that sleep is important for your infant's growth and development, but while sleep itself is a natural process, developing healthy sleep habits is a learned skill. This gentle workshop is designed for parents of newborns to help them start to put good sleep habits into practice so that as their baby grows and develops, he or she will have the tools for healthy sleep. This workshop will address the following sleep questions and issues:

  • Coming home from the hospital
  • Safe sleep practices
  • Realistic newborn sleep expectations
  • Dr. Harvey Karp's - The 5 S's
  • Establishing good sleep habits
  • Maximizing baby's sleep
  • Favorite sleep products - Check out Now!

INSTRUCTOR:

Hello!  My name is Becci Binnquist.  Sleep has been my passion for over 13 years.  As a Certified Sleep Consultant and Postpartum Doula, I aim to come alongside parents and support them as I help get their little ones to sleep independently, or help them to develop important sleep habits.

I work with families before their baby is born through toddler/preschool-age children.  With newborn families, I do zoom consults, home visits, and home evaluations to ensure that they have the proper house/nursery set-up.  I also go through my Newborn Sleep Guide to equip them with success. Some of these tools include walking them through the 5 S's, proper room environment, awake windows, swaddling techniques, and setting realistic expectations of life with a newborn. I am also a huge advocate of contact naps, baby-wearing, and the overall health of the family.

I also work with babies going through the 4-month sleep regression and guide them through that challenging time.  We discuss awake windows, sleep crutches, and techniques to practice to help their child to start to sleep independently.  Some techniques include the Pick-Up/Put down Method or the Shush and Pat Method.

Over the years, I have helped countless babies sleep through the night and take better naps.  I look at the family unit as a whole, and together, we determine which method will work for them.  Given enough time, patience, and consistency, I guide them so that everyone can sleep.  I develop an individualized plan for families and walk with them every step of the way so that we can get everyone sleeping better, even parents!  I look forward to partnering with you and your family and becoming a trusted resource to help be a part of the solution to your child’s sleep problems.
