Early solid feeding advice widely varies among our pediatricians. Rice cereal has been replaced by many pediatricians with "anything goes!"  This may undermine your confidence in what to feed your baby. "Real Food Baby" uses the emerging science of palate training to encourage an early acceptance of a wide variety of unprocessed natural foods and lower the risk of creating a "picky eater."  You’ll learn how many commercial first foods such as Cheerios, goldfish and teething biscuits are engineered to trigger your infant’s oral/brain “on-switch” and inhibit their “off switch” to alter their future food preferences. We discuss the proper timing for introducing solids based on your infant’s gastrointestinal development, appropriate portion sizes, and how to safely offer those worrisome “allergens”. Menus for meals and snacks from 6 to 12 months for breastfed or formula fed babies are included. 

Cynthia Epps, MS, IBCLC, RLC, is an Infant Feeding Specialist in private practice. She holds a Master's degree in Nutritional Biochemistry, and is a Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. She consults for breastfeeding issues, transitioning to solids, and toddler food refusals.
