Parents and Adult Family Members
Is your family prepared for an emergency? Do you have an emergency preparedness kit with all of the essentials? At the end of this class, you'll be familiar with earthquake, fire and tsunami, and the risks associated with each. You'll know how to protect your little ones, yourself and your belongings. Finally, you'll be able to identify basic things you can do today that will help your family be prepared and improve your resiliency after an emergency. You will be trained to hazard hunt around your home to identify potential dangers, develop a family communications plan, become familiar with areas in Los Angeles that are at risk for tsunami, learn important fire evacuation tips, receive basic fire extinguisher training, and much more.
Devra Schwartz is a Certified Emergency Manager, a wife, and a mom to her adorable one and a half year old son. Devra is currently the Director of Emergency Management and Strategic Initiatives at Loyola Marymount University. Prior to her time at LMU, Devra served as an Emergency Management Coordinator at the City of Los Angeles Emergency Management Department.
Devra earned her Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and her Master of Science in Strategic Planning for Critical Infrastructure at the University of Washington, Seattle. Devra has participated in numerous certificate programs through FEMA, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Texas A & M Engineering Extension Service and the HERS Leadership Institute at Wellesley, and is a recognized expert in the emergency management field.
